Way Forward
- Mission Gramodaya: Government of West Bengal has identified 79 most backward villages on backward indicators. We feel that one of the potential causes for the socially deviant behavior among the youths is poverty and lack of meaningful vocation. We plan to bring the 79 most backward villages at the level of other villages with minimal level of infrastructure and livelihood support. The second phase of RSVY has planned for utilizing the start-up support while the regular programmatic support would ensure implementing relevant development programs. It is expected that the developmental activities would bring the people in the mainstream and would go a long way in developing entrepreneurship. While the Zila Parishad has agreed to partner support involvement of NGOs have been envisaged to facilitate awareness building.
- Further training to the village youths: we have witnessed that some of the villages have witnessed coming forward of the youths on the entrepreneurial path and are looking for hand holding support to guide their pursuit. We have planned to offer training to such youths in the next phase for which the NGO (CDHI) has already been identified and contracted. The NGO is also planning to take up various support and counseling activities for the youths on their own.
- Mission Nava Jeevan: Impressed by the implementation and impact of the RSVY components we have planned further projects keeping in mind the availability of resources under the project. These projects are designed to address to the contextual realities as well as emerging needs. All the projects would be launched and implemented in mission mode. Important among the envisaged projects are Mission Nava Jeevan, a support program for improving health services through scientific Dais training and a support program for disabled and orphans.
- Extension and Education: While the projects under RSVY have started showing positive result we consider it worthwhile to disseminate the learning and create a learning environment for the benefit of other stake holders and potential partners. Convergence and synergy among agencies and programs has been a great learning in this project. The same should be absorbed and internalized in the larger system of governance. We have taken to publishing relevant literature and other written materials to share among others. We are producing a video-documentary covering the approach, process and impact of Nava Disha. To sensitize young minds the school children are being taken to different project locations to help them learn and get sensitized to the issues of the rural society. They would also reflect on the interventions which can meaningfully address to the issues and
- Action Research and Participative Learning: RSVY and Nava Disha seem to have opened up a new vista of opportunity and innovation. Several possibilities are unfolding in the so far backward region of North Bengal. We do not want to lose this opportunity. We would selectively go for action research using participative learning process. We feel that this would take us to innovative programs and processes. Universities, NGOs and other institutions of civil society would be involved in the process.
