Dodoliya - A success story
Dodoliya is a small village under Patkata Gram Panchayat about 20 kms away from the district Head Quarter in Sadar Subdivision. The village has virtually no cultivable land, dominated by Schedule Caste community families having no permanent source of income. Dodoliya is a typical example of backward pocket in the district. The village however is endowed with derelict water bodies and large women population. Under the RSVY, the District Fishery Dept. has taken up several innovative schemes utilizing these village assets. Women of the villagers have been mobilized to form five numbers of Self Help Groups. These SHGs have been involved to convert the derelict ponds into assets for sustainable Pisciculture activities. The re-excavated ponds have been handed over to these SHG where schemes like Ornamental Pisciculture, Cage Culture Fishery including a Integrated Fishery cum Duckery scheme have come up in a big way to supplement the meager income of these poor families.
The Hon'ble Minister visited Dodaliya at about 9:30 a.m. on 24/11/2004. He witnessed the activities of the Self Help Groups and interacted with the group members. He appreciated the initiative of District Fishery Dept. for taking up innovative projects like Ornamental Fishery, which is being implemented for the first time in North Bengal districts.
