PISCICULTURE SCHEMES
With its large water bodies comprised in tanks, ponds and beds, Jalpaiguri had never been a deficient district for the promotion of pisciculture. The consistent and the right approach to harness the existing potential were perhaps lacking. The much needed intervention in the fishery sector therefore came with the launching of RSVY. The thrusts areas for the pisciculture sector has been (i) to create adequate quantity of community water bodies through renovation of derelict and semi derelict water bodies (ii) to provide adequate extension services to the fish farmers through intensive training in modern and innovative method of Pisciculture including supply of quality inputs like fish lings, Aluminum Hundi, Nylon cast etc. (iii) to assist, encourage and motivate the women SHG’s of identified villages for taking up sustainable social fishery schemes like Ornamental fishery, seasonal carp culture, Deshi magur culture, composite carp culture, integrated fish cum duck farming etc.
The original conceived schemes under this sector includes (i) Distribution of Minikits , (ii) Distribution of Ducklings among fisher women, (iii) Distribution of Nylon cast net and aluminum container, (iv) Renovation of derelict and semi derelict water bodies, (v) Training , (vi) Group Benefit scheme and (vii) Social Fisheries.
