SWC IN FORESTS SCHEMES

This sector is perhaps peculiar to district like Jalpaiguri only, where the innumerable rivers and rivulets cause not only yearly flood havoc but are also gradually eating away extensive valuable crop lands of the poor farmers. The basic component of this sector involves the construction of protection dyke/bund parallel to the river courses with provision of boulder sausages to stop stream bank erosion as well as encroachment of cultivable land by the river. The selected sites for the implementations of such schemes has been those far off forest villages where rivers like Murti, Basra, Buri Basra, etc has been causing havoc over the years. The basic objective has been to protect agril land from flash flood and sand depositions. The following schemes has been taken up by the DFO, Soil Conservation (N), Jalpaiguri:
